YOUR VOICE MAKES A DIFFERENCE
History making legislation is underway to protect innocent children from sex trafficking and abuse.
We have great news to report on the curriculum prevention bill we have been working on in the U.S. Congress titled the Human Trafficking and Exploitation Prevention Training Act of 2021. The Senate version of S. 2136 which is sponsored by Senator Murkowski(R) and Senator Smith(D) dropped in July and is currently in the HELP (Health, Education, Labor and Pension) Committee. The House version of this bill sponsored by Rep. Buchanan (R) and Rep. Wasserman-Schultz (D) has also dropped (H.R.4989).
Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) introduced the Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention and Protection Reauthorization Act of 2021 (H.R. 5150) (TVPA) on Capitol Hill, which will now include a mandate on sex trafficking prevention education for students K-12, providing funding for schools to institute our train-the-trainer model and curriculum to save young lives!
Three Ways You Can Help:
First, please pray that these bills will pass their committees quickly, and that they will receive a full vote in both Chambers of Congress by the end of the year.
USE YOUR VOICE:
Second, please contact your local Representative and Senators to ask them to co-sponsor these bills; the more co-sponsors a bill has, the more likely it is to gain momentum for a full vote – and eventually pass. To locate your Representative and Senators, click this link and type your address into the box on the right side of the screen labelled “Contact your Member.”
